OTHER: Snowflakes Added to Holiday Goodies.
|
Good Doug has a nifty little app that makes snow fall from your menu bar. Snowflake allows you adjust the number and density of flakes. The hypnotic flakes are perfect entertainment after burning through your bookmarks, and no matter how much snow falls you'll never need a shovel! (Also added to the Holiday Goodies Roundup page.)

OTHER: Screensavers from Ethereal
|
Over a dozen great screensavers are free to download from Aaron Welton's web site, Ethereal. They were all made using Apple's Quartz Composer which is free with Xcode. I checked it out and Quartz Composer looks like a pretty easy to get started. Maybe I'll try my hand at a screensaver, though I bet it takes a lot of work to create output as nice as the ones at Ethereal.

OTHER: New Yahoo Widgets
|
You won't catch me mentioning Yahoo and Dashboard widgets too often because frankly, I think it's rare that a really new, cool idea is released, but I just saw a couple I thought were worth mentioning.
Having grown up in the city, it wasn't until a few years ago when we built a summer home far from the bright lights that I realized how many sattelites are visible to the naked eye every evening. It has become a favorite pastime to sit in a lawn chair with my neck cranked back and watch as, every few minutes, another one passes overhead. Ade Ashford's new ISS Tracker will let me know if one of those lights is the International Space Station!
For fun, checkout ChoRong & Nitzan's recreation of the childhood game Etch a Sketch. Sorry to say, I'm just as poor at drawing with this virtual version as I was with the original, but maybe you're better.
While you're at it, vote in the new poll to help me gage interest in widget news for future posts.

OTHER: Poof! It was gone.
|
If you drag an item off the Dock, there is a little animation that accompanies it called a Poof. It's a single PNG image file that the OS carves into five 128x128 frames to make the animation. Generally, you don't see the effect very often, but when you do why not have a little fun with it!
Visit the Download Section to grab my Comic Book interpretation of the Poof.

OTHER: TabMeister Contest Winner.
|
This site has been open just over two weeks and we've had 16 readers contribute icons, desktops, and snapshots for everyone to enjoy. That's great because it's all-about everyone contributing!
The winner of the TabMeister contest was Tim Fehr. He sent all those great looking Prince Edward Island desktop pictures. Congrats to him and thanks to Brian Greenstone from Pangea Software for providing a copy of TabMeister for our contributors.
